i found a small news story about carly simon and who the object was of you're so vain. seems there's a video contest (that she's going to judge) about the song. also, on the site is a free download of let the river run i've always liked her music, so why not share her music today. 

i'll try and answer all the comments all y'all have left, but if i don't answer individually, please know how much joy all y'all give me just seeing  all y'all pop up on the screen!

i chose the last king of scotland because it's based on a true story. idi amin was indeed a horrible man, vicious, crazed and a very visible symbol of all things wrong in the post colonial world. the doctor, although a composite and fictional, is also symbolic of how greed corrupts and diminishes us all. there is evil in the world, it manifests itself in many ways and sometimes, with a pleasing face (not that was the case with the real idi amin). the evilness that allows people to turn a blind eye to injustice for their own personal gain, financial and psychological, made the garrison character (and people like him) equally complicit in the horror done. the performances in this movie were stellar and helped bring an awareness that had alluded many people to the reality of dictatorships.

i'm seeing the darkness more and more in our world and it saddens me more than i can say. poverty and ignorance are seizing the least of us around the world and this will bring about our end without a doubt unless we deal with it now! poverty makes people very small, jealous and vicious the MITM said to me yesterday about a situation in deepestdarkestafrica, but it is true more often than not everywhere were neglect has allowed poverty and ignorance to blossom. it's easy to convert the hopeless with promises of a better life when they see nothing else....

but i digress, tell me about your movie clip for Bad Guys!

it has not gone unnoticed that i've stopped writing.

the questions have been oblique, are you well? how are you feeling?

so, here's the deal.

i'm ok.

i just can't seem to focus or really organize my thoughts into some sort of interesting/sensible collection of words right now. writing has taken a backseat to the visual because it's easier. i know we all share some/many of the stories of our days and support each other in hard times, but this is different. even commenting is a complicated and thoughtful process. y'all deserve better.

i'm just empty right now.

our pal, boxer used to have movie nights when she was a kid and, like me, is a movie fan. so to honor her tradition and the movies, here's my entry for musical wednesday:



fred astaire was so elegant and his movies (already old when i first saw them) did exactly what they did in the 30's and 40's swept me away to a lovely place free from care and everyday dullness. i think that's why i know all the music still! shall we begin dancing cheek to cheek?

the day after

it was gone by 3am.

all we have around here is black ice and slippery roads.

i overslept and missed the MITM this morning.

i have been informed that there are a few things i need to do, if it isn't a problem.

the fact that there has already been a spin out on our block doesn't seem to make a difference.

of course, not everyone heard it or looked out the window or LISTENS TO ME!

so, if you don't see it or you don't hear it...it didn't happen and you can get what you want.





when i'm ready to do it because i have the car keys.

what we have at 2220

 

what was so cool was how it went from the sound of rain to a gentle silence. i knew when it started. it's supposed to stick until early morning, so i'm hoping we'll have a couple of inches and i can make my first snowman in savannah! and if not a snowman, a snowball for the MITM.

SNOW!

yep, for the first time in 14 years it's supposed to snow here starting this afternoon! inland areas are looking at 3-4", along the coast we should have ONE INCH! everyone is excited and can't talk about anything else which is what we tend to do around here anyway. but i digress...

i know! 

i'll take pictures.

what a great way to end the week! it's been an interesting one, that's for sure.

1624 update:
so, i'm back from an all day meeting (which is another story because supernana was sending me text messages from her meeting on the west coast! too funny!). picked up miss daisy on the way home from her daughter's house AND we're settling in for the evening.

so far, all we've had is rain. but, it is cold and grey and everyone is on HIGH ALERT for snow! i'm ready, camera is ready, wine is ready...but i'm starting to think vodka and snow might be my new favorite beverage...


i'll keep y'all posted!

2019 update:
still no snow! 
i'm dead tired. it's raining. the opening ceremonies for the 2010 winter olympics are on and i can't keep my eyes open! have no fear, i have all the exterior lights on, the camera is ready

A Cajun died and went to hell.


The devil assigned him the usual punishment ... put him in the mass pit where the heat was melting others. The devil came back sometime later surprised to find the Cajun just sitting around, not even misting much less sweating. "How come you're not so much as sweating here when everyone else is screaming for relief from the heat?"


The Cajun laughed and said, "Man, I was raised in the bayous of Sout Looziana. Dis ain't nothin' but May in Lafayette to me!"


The devil decided to really put it to the Cajun. He moved him to a sealed off cave in the pit with open blazes and four extra furnaces blasting. When he came back days later the Cajun was sitting pretty and had barely begun to bead up with sweat. The devil was outraged. "How is this possible!? You should be melted to a shrieking puddle in these conditions! "


The Cajun laughed even harder than before. "Hey, man! I done tole you ... I was raised in Sout Looziana. You tink dis is heat?! Dis ain't nothin' but August in Jennings!"


So the devil thought, “Alright, a little reverse logic ought to do the trick.” He put the Cajun into a corner of hell where no heat ever reached. It was freezing and to add to the Cajun's misery he added massive icebergs and blasting frozen air. When he returned the Cajun was shivering, ice hung from every part of him but he was grinning like a Cheshire cat.


Exasperated, the devil asked "HOW!? How is it possible?! You're impervious to heat and here you sit in conditions you can't be used to, freezing cold, and yet you're happier than if you were in heaven.. WHY?!"


The Cajun kept grinning and said, "Dis mean de Saints won da Super Bowl!"
