yes. that's it. an empty post with only a title. (i hit the wrong thing and then it was published.)
anyway...things that make me wonder what's happened to our educational system,
a little list:
1. read without preconceived ideas about the subject matter.
2. your opinion is just that, yours. it becomes a serious critique when you can substantiate your comments/argument by facts and reason, not emotion.
3. discussions should be free and open as an exchange of information and/or ideas. debates are the forum for persuasive arguments.
4. listen the same way you would like to be listened to.
5. use more than one source for your background material.
6. and finally, be nice. it's business, not personal.

slowly, i turned...
ever have a day when you know the other shoe is yet to drop?
~~~~~~~~
sometimes it seems as if you know just how things will transpire during the course of any given day...and then surprise! too much coffee made someone we know who shall remain anonymous, but whose initials are savannah, jumpier than a cat in room full of rocking chairs (i love that saying...), anyway, lunch turned into a quick mashup of tuna, toast and juice...of course, the MITM, dear that he is, kept out of my way, but did keep up a running commentary sotto voce...sigh...where was i?
sunday, sunday...
all the furniture is back in the living room, the mantel is dressed and it looks grand! the MITM hung the dining room chandelier two days after his return, we decided on the art work and decorations we wanted up and did that, sooooo, all the public rooms (that sounds so grand, doestn't it?) are done. i had thought of posting pictures, but since none of the coconut krewe has seen the house yet, i didn't want to spoil the surprise, just yet!
all y'all will have to wait a tiny bit longer.
~~~~~~~
the MITM has only been home for 2 weeks and we've accomplished a lot. he's finally relaxed back into his at home groove...as in, today is Sunday, not Day 1 of his work week. no one seems to understand what it means to him to sit in his chair and watch a movie knowing that the day is his to do with as he pleases. i think part of the problem is that he makes his work seem so easy to do, but very few people know just how tiresome and challenging the day to day in deepestdarkestafrica can be. then again, if it was easy, everyone would do it, right?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
i'm going to be doing some drive by blogging today, i think...i'm still in med mode and randomness is rampant!
tonight at 2030 local time wherever you are
yes, it's a small gesture, a symbolic act, but maybe, just maybe all of our small gestures, our symbolic acts will highlight how many people want a better quality of life for everyone.
one hour.
tonight.
turn off your lights.
what we did on thursday
miss daisy and i left the plantation at 0920 (i can be precise because she remembered and told everyone we ran into over and over again!) the first tihing on the schedule was her exercise class for seniors. it's called silver sneakers which means exactly that: a pickup spot for the over 70 crowd! you doubt me? well, i am here to tell all y'all when she comes out smiling and talking all about the darling gentlemen what the heck am i supposed to think? me? i spent an hour sitting in the car with the moon roof open reading...no interruptions, nothing...i was in heaven! so, a real win-win situation as far as i was concerned. ok, now that killed almost 2 hours. quick stop for some bottled water and we hit the bookstore for a bit of shopping, a cuppa joe and handbag shopping for miss daisy...(oh yeah, hellva great day...sigh). but, my darlings, it got better.
we went to the movies! in the middle of the day! yeah, missy daisy, bless her heart, had decided that since miss lulu had seen slumdog millionaire, she had to see it, too! how could i deny her? have any of y'all been to an actual movie theater lately? 2 medium sodas and a bog of popcorn? hold on, $17.00usd...of course, the popcorn was in an industrial size tub and the drinks were at least gallon sized and those were billed as medium size!!! who the hell decided decides portion control? gawdalmighty!!! never again. but the movie really was excellent!...ok, next...
quick drive downtown because i had a meeting at 1600 hrs (i am so digging using military time, it sounds so official). (have i told all y'all i once wanted to be a race car driver?) (and sometimes, drive as if i am?) get downtown just in time, introduce miss daisy to the office staff and leave her with a pile of magazines and a g&t (to go cup from the resto next door) (oh , yeah, we know how to live here!) 1 hour later...done, done and done and off to the airport to pick up the MITM. miss daisy was plesantly mellow considering she's been out and about allthedamndaysinceninetwentyinthemorning donchaknow!
of course, you know what happened...
his flight was delayed.
but only by 20 minutes.
now, nothing in savannah is all that far way, but even our little town has traffic jams and impossible to get reservations at certain hours restaurants. so, rather than go to our favorite place downtown (garibaldi's café), it was bonefish grill for seafood. now getting there from the airport is, for me, a complicated and intense driving problem because, as the MITM says, i am directionally challenged. every time i have to take this particular highway it's the same thing: deep sigh, bite my lower lip and say, "this is the right ramp, right?" and his response is always the same, "yes, dear. followed by, "you say this all the time, don't you?" and then he LAUGHS! i need a witty comeback, dammit!
by the time we finally got home, the painters had left for the evening. all the trim work and doors had been done. the fireplace mantel has been redone in a deep rich black that highlights the color of the brick surround and raised hearth.
now here we are, it's friday evening. dan, the painter man and his guy, carl have done 2 coats on three of the walls. the niche has been painted with 3, yes THREE coats of the accent color and the fireplace wall with its cathedral ceiling peak has been started. it is going to be fantastic! i'm hoping we can post some pictures by then...
there you have it...our day in the streets.
(we really had planned on doing a far more cultured outting, but wtf, sometimes, girls just want to have fun!
something's off
i'm not sure what it is, but there seems to be something just not right. i feel off balance personally. i don't know what it is, but i know how it feels.
like a small lingering cloud, my darlings, i can't seem to shoo away.
i'm giving myself today and thursday.
any suggestions
she said, he heard
she said, "the flight leaves at 6, so i'll drop you for 5, ok?"
he heard, "...0600...0500"
(oh, y'all soooooooo know where this is going, right?)
the reality:
the flight departs at 1800hrs today and he needs to be at the airport no later than 1700hrs this evening!
the saving grace? i caught the mistake last night and not this morning! (short trip, not to worrry, he's back on thursday)
there's a reason for using the 24 hour clock!
who knew?
in anticipation
i just found this! i know, how slow am i? (don't answer that) the november 2008 edition of national geographic magazine was all about the end of night and why we need darkness. it spoke about energy conservation, of course, but more importantly, to me anyway, is the restoration of that glorious phenomena called the night sky...the starry night...the eyes of the angels. too often we forget how beautiful, how bewitching, how elegant the canopy of stars are at night. the illumination of our cities which must occur for safety reasons has robbed us of a natural light show. many cities have found ways to cut down on their light pollution by installing light covers that direct light down or by installing low pressure sodium vapor lights. we've started using those here for lane (alley) illumination. it's a small thing, but the start of not only caring for our earth, but caring for ourselves. the night refreshes us, the darkness renews us and a good sleep is a gift!
so, check out earth hour and plan on looking up!
Someone, tell a joke...
things are jumpin heah in ole savannah!
check out the lineup for savannah music fest over 2 weeks of glorious music!
last week was our grand st. patrick's day party and parade. savannah's parade is the 2nd largest in the states. second only to new york city and that's saying a lot! we had a blast here at home even though we no longer live on the parade route. this was the first time in a few years that the MITM was home to celebrate with us. no green beer here, friends, just good food, good fun, and a great day. i'd tell more, but, honestly, i don't remember much more! ;) here's a video i found on youtube from this year's parade.
Where do they teach you to talk like this? In some Panama City "Sailor wanna hump-hump" bar, or is it getaway day and your last shot at his whiskey?
Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.
(jack nickolson as melvin udall in as good as it gets)
a week to the day.
i walked away. i was hurt. people i love were hurt. but that's done. all of you reminded me of the goodness and kindness we share here in cyberville. i am humbled by your kind words. but, i must also thank my attacker. why you might say, why give any credence to a shadowy figure who took time and effort to hack into an account and then send malicious mail? here's why my darlings: because my own words were used against me. yes, fun and games became the weapon of choice for my own private minister of public morality. words, words, words. how many times in my professional life have i chided writers/speakers about the use of language? how many times have i discussed with far better writers than myself the importance of taking responsibility for your words and the impact they have on others? more times than i can remember and yet, obviously, i didn't listen to myself enough.
so, there it is. my words bothered someone. my words angered someone. my words hurt someone. and for that, i am sorry. truly.
i mentioned that i have been humbled. humbled by the support all of you have shown me. to all of you i say, thank you. i'll try not to let you down or diminish the esteem you have bestowed on me.
to my friends, i say again,
Thank You!
now, i have to admit, there was this moment when all i could think of was
but, i decided, enough was enough. i have moved on. but i swear, come after me and mine again and i will eviscerate you and scatter your entrails to the wind.
i'll see all ya'll tomorrow!
So long, it's been good to know you
There are many lovely and gracious people in Cyberville and since I started this blog, I've been fortunate to get to know many of them! Yesterday, all of that changed. Someone, some person, some malcontent, some creature, decided to spoil that by slandering me and my good name. This was a personal attack and caused pain.
Let me be clear, it wasn't a public attack, it was personal. It was devious. It took someone time and effort. I truly have no idea what inspired or provoked this attack. And, really, today I don't care.
But, I know this.
I can not and will not allow hurt to visit itself upon the people I love. I don't have the time, nor do I have the desire to engage in some sort of high school vendetta over this incident. I am walking away. I might be back, but I really don't know right now.
But for now, good bye.
where was i?
almost 1500hrs.
damn day is almost over. which is a good thing, but damn, what the hell happened, besides all the carpets being cleaned here (not by me, of course), miss daisy going to a luncheon (thankfully, without me) and then, coming home filled to the brim with gossip (sigh) about people i don't know and church goings on that i can't even begin to feign interest in hearing about. but it's fine, she had fun and i enjoyed the short lived quiet. besides, for all my complaining, i know how to deal with her because if there's one thing i've learned from all the men (minds out of the gutter now, i meant the MITM & our 3 sons) in my life, is to appear to listen intently and periodically interject an oh really? followed by, you don't say or nooooo, really? to keep everyone happy. chris rock refined it when he added that at some point you have to say, i told you that bitch was crazy! ;)
we'll see what else happens. . .
sometimes we save ourselves from ourselves without even knowing it
i was slightly piqued earlier and consequently, wrote an entry that was the written form of the cutting glance that shredded another without so much as a bless her heart caveat...it was strong, it was ferocious, it was merciless, but with a sense of gentility, not vulgarity, it was a direct hit. it was not masked as a compliment to the supposed wit and chic cynicism that had been directed this way, no, my darlings it was cutting.
i was ready to hit save.
i was feeling victorious.
i was feeling vindicated.
i was feeling...ok, ya'll are getting the picture.
save and then....
gone.
that was it. gone. nothing. no post. nothing.
and i'm glad.
writing it was enough. posting it would have been senseless. sometimes, you just have to let things go...sometimes, technology really does look out for you.
there are days when you just have to go with the flow.
and then, there are days when you just have to take no prisoners.
this wasn't one of those.
not a good start
0130
wide awake after being asleep for some short period of time. of course, it didn't help that i fell asleep on top of the blankets fully dressed! sigh
i've already read the tuesday edition of 3 papers.
a magazine that arrived yesterday.
more than i will ever want to know about a piece of machinery i'l never use, but will probably ship to people who will use it.
a few blogs.
anxiety. i know, that's it.
to know what the cause is is supposed to help in the solution.
sigh
once again...
happy anniversary!
(6 days until the MITM is back home from deepestdarkestafrica via 2 days in paris)
2214hrs upDATE!
sooooooo, at the MITM request & suggestion, i spent this evening with our very, very, very bestest friends in the whole wide world!!! we toasted everything and everyone! but to all of you from the MITM & me...thank for your kind words and above all..your grace! we are most appreciative! xoxox
all over the city you'll see
photo courtesy of savannah st. patrick's day parade comittee
because traveling chica asked for a photo.
saturday not in the park
it's starting to look as if spring just might happen around here!
i'm feeling better today. perhaps sleeping for 12 uninterrupted hours really was all i needed. we'll see what the rest of today brings.
another driveby day, my darlings...there are movies to watch and laundry to do...
i'll keep you informed of my progress!
update:
how damn sad is it? my little town makes cnn national headline news for...wait for it...
dying the fountains green!
yes, that's it...blasted food coloring in every damn fountain in anticipation of st. patrick's day.
of course, it is better than how all this foolishness started 20 years ago...yeah, that's right, some morons thought they could just drop food coloring in the savannah river...i think everyone in this town really does drink too much! the fun is just beginning...
2nd update:
loads of laundry done: 2
visitors: 2
drinks consumed: 1 bottle prosecco
time now: 14.30 hrs
bed: unmade still
dishes washed: none
movies watched: none
plans for rest of day: none
but it's early still...
3rd update:
loads of laundry done: 1
visitors: 1 (miss daisy's grandson who lives in our little town)
drinks consumed: 0 (which is so not right)
time now: 17.08hrs
bed: still unmade
dishes washed: still none (and the stack is starting to reproduce)
movies watched: still none (and i am really getting pissed about that)
plans for the rest of the day: none (at least none that i'm ready to put in writing)
i hadn't really planned a huge agenda today, so there's no real feeling of having dropped the domestic ball, so to speak. some things were done. and some were not.
i've started an early supper, so we'll be eating like farmers today - before dark! (gawd, what an elitist i've become.) sigh (let's just chalk it up to residual meds.) but it is rather nice out, the windows have been opened, so the house is fresh smelling. my allergies have decided to give me a break, so all is right in my world. for now...
4th update:
never, ever sit down to dinner with a passive aggressive senior citizen. it was torture. i should have known as soon as she asked, in that horrible way that i know she knows the answer already, that no, it wasn't a tri tip roast we were having for dinner, it was a very lovely eye of round roast, sliced so thin that it was butter under a hot knife...and then the silent treatment began. but oh, no, darlings, not that quiet silence...it was that heavy i-hate-this-why-are-you-making-me-suffer-this-indignation silence. arggggghhh...
thisclose to the end of a lovely day.
arrgggghhhh
i'm sick.
no, really.
i am not well.
i think it's a cold.
or maybe i'm just really, really, really tired.
this is so not a good thing.
it's that weird sick, ya'll know what i mean: not sick enough to see a doctor, but sickly feeling. fortunately, i only have some research to do today and even if i decide to let it rest, that's ok. but hell, the damn sun is shining and it looks as if it might finally turn into a nice day and even better weekend.
but i digress...part of the problem is every time, i sneeze, miss daisy goes into a frenzy of concern. i know all ya'll are saying, "awwwww, isn't miss daisy sweet?" well, yes, she is, but sweetjesus, after the 120th time of explaining, yes, it probably is a cold and hearing yet another reason she thinks might have caused this miserable-why-the-hell-am-i-alive feeling, i am seriously looking for knock out drops...for ME!
i think i'm going to find a movie, the remote, a bottle of wine, the big down comforter off mah bed and park mah sick ass on the sofa!
(and the laptop, of course!)
(for later)
(because all ya'll know, i'll be back)
and here, this is for all ya'll:
poetry just because...
no, really.
i am not well.
i think it's a cold.
or maybe i'm just really, really, really tired.
this is so not a good thing.
it's that weird sick, ya'll know what i mean: not sick enough to see a doctor, but sickly feeling. fortunately, i only have some research to do today and even if i decide to let it rest, that's ok. but hell, the damn sun is shining and it looks as if it might finally turn into a nice day and even better weekend.
but i digress...part of the problem is every time, i sneeze, miss daisy goes into a frenzy of concern. i know all ya'll are saying, "awwwww, isn't miss daisy sweet?" well, yes, she is, but sweetjesus, after the 120th time of explaining, yes, it probably is a cold and hearing yet another reason she thinks might have caused this miserable-why-the-hell-am-i-alive feeling, i am seriously looking for knock out drops...for ME!
i think i'm going to find a movie, the remote, a bottle of wine, the big down comforter off mah bed and park mah sick ass on the sofa!
(and the laptop, of course!)
(for later)
(because all ya'll know, i'll be back)
and here, this is for all ya'll:
poetry just because...
pick a day, any day...
yesterday was a holding pattern blogger kind of day.
but, it was a busy day here. tracking things, looking for other things, talking to people to try and persuade them to dowhatiwant and generally trying to make it so.
and then there was miss daisy.
sigh
anyway, for about 5 minutes, there was even the hope of a quick trip to paris. but, for now, that type of last minute-come-fly-with-me getaway is a thing of the past. but, i'm over it. (not really, but pouting is so juvenile.)
so, moving right along, it's countdown time. the MITM is out of deepestdarkestafrica in less than 10 days and home in 13. it's hustle time here and overseas as we live la vida loca, but without the unsavory aspects, just the craziness. it's a script written by 12 different people with no idea what the other pages look like or what the story is.
yet, there are constants,
the MITM,
the coconut krewe...
me.
and now all ya'll!
ya'll have become part of the story, this wild/crazy narrative that is savmarshmama. stories, music, pictures have traveled across the ocean, across the country. we know bits and pieces of each others lives and friendships have formed. ya'll have helped keep me sane when things have gone crazy overseas with your kind words of support and kindness. yes, we've shared good words and one day we'll all raise a pint/cuppa/glass to each other! thank you because it is important, especially in the damndarkmorning, to tell your friends you appreciate them.
but i digress...as i usually do when it's late/early and i can't sleep/haven't been to bed. there were so many things that struck me as fascinating, interesting, even shocking yesterday! did you know that yesterday, 3/3/09 was a square root day? and there are 9 in every century. who knew? did you also know that we had a near miss with an asteroid bigger than a 10 story building? the impact of which would have been equal to 10 hiroshima atomic bombs? hitting all at once? in the same spot? another who knew? yeah, i know! what a day we had...and it all happened yesterday.
so, what's next?
because i said i would
5 reasons why life is grand
1. because it really is. i have people who love me.
2. because it really is. there are people i truly love.
3. because it really is. i am healthy.
4. because it really is. yes, yes, yes!
5. and considering the alternative, it really is!
i could expand on all of these and perhaps i will later, but today (it's a miss daisy thing right now) i'm going for quick & dirty
i'll do:
10 true things about me....later.
and now it's later:
10 true things about me.
1. i have naturally curly hair.
2. i know how to open a champagne bottle correctly.
3. i am an NCIS fanatic.
4. i love listening to james taylor.
5. i collect bauer pottery.
6. i could probably not buy another book for a year, read the books i have one after another and still have books left over to read.
7. i love giving parties. i hate doing the set-up, but i love the actual party.
8. i would rather have 5 classic garments in my closet than a full wardrobe of the trendiest items of the season.
9. i wear black, grey, white or khaki. the only colorful items are my jewelry or scarves.
10. i am still madly in love with the MITM.
so it's raining here in georgia
some lyrics and a video.
everything is okay here, so not to worry, darlings.
isn't this a lovely day (to be caught in the rain) - irving berlin
The weather is frightening.
The thunder and lightning
Seem to be having their way.
But as far as I'm concerned, it's a lovely day.
The turn in the weather
Will keep us together
So I can honestly say,
That as far as I'm concerned, it's a lovely day...
And everything's okay.
Isn't this a lovely day to be caught in the rain.
You were going on your way, now you've got to remain.
Just as you were going, leaving me all at sea,
The clouds broke, they broke and oh what a break for me.
I can see the sun up high, though we're caught in a storm.
I can see where you and I could be cozy and warm.
Let the rain pitter patter
But it really doesn't matter
If the skies are gray.
Long as I can be with you, it's a lovely day.
~~~~~
come rain or come shine - johnny mercer
I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you,
Come rain or come shine.
High as a mountain and deep as a river,
Come rain or come shine.
I guess when you met me
It was just one of those things,
But don't ever bet me,
"Cause I'm gonna be true if you let me.
You're gonna love me like nobody's loved me,
Come rain or come shine.
Happy together, unhappy together
And won't it be fine.
Days may be cloudy or sunny,
We're in or we're out of the money,
But I'm with you always,
I'm with you rain or shine.
tomorrow i'll do the required postings for the 2 new awards on the sidebar
