so, that happened

the MITM has left again, but now he's in a land far, far away that isn't in deepestdarkestafrica, just on the mediterranean. if you saw saturday's post, you probably figured out he'd left or maybe, you just decided to watch usual suspects again (i did, btw). i sort of spent saturday mushing out in front of the big screen watching movies on dvd or netflix. sunday was game day, so all y'all know what i was doing! (geaux saints! 38-17 over the oakland raiders

and now, it's monday.

i'm still watching movies. or at least, i will be later today. when was the last time you watched blade runner? that's on tap for today. both versions!

some work to do and some laundry, but that's just a regular monday.  my biggest problem is what to do about my cellphone/mobile. (i know, talk about a first world dilemma) i've resisted the whole smartphone madness, but it is now time to give in and join the rest of society (especially, the coconut krewe) and get a real one, instead of the lost generation version i've been using. some days, i'd almost rather go without one, as in, being unconnected worked really well for quite a few years why do i have to re-connect again so quickly? there's a very small sony ericsson mobile that someone left here (captain chaos, i think) after a european jaunt that just needs a charger and if i can slip my SIM card in, i'm just fine with that! now, i'm just rambling on, but there is a point to all of this...

at some point late last night/early this morning, i watched a documentary about the making of blade runner and how it was ahead of its time as a movie, but visionary in its prediction of a possible future for america. it also changed how science fiction movies looked, as well. the future wasn't as bright as it had been envisioned politically or artistically. one of the interesting things to me was remembering when i first saw it and walking out of the theater saying, "damn, we're the old people in the background!" or welcome to your future because you ain't getting to the off world colonies, kiddo! at age 32, the rose colored glasses were tossed aside, never to be used again.

Batty: Questions... Morphology? Longevity? Incept dates?
Hannibal Chew: Don't know, I don't know such stuff. I just do eyes, ju-, ju-, just eyes... just genetic design, just eyes. You Nexus, huh? I design your eyes.
Batty: Chew, if only you could see what I've seen with your eyes!

that's it. what lies ahead? we're all watching some sort of screen and wondering what's next?  the news is terrifying and yet, sometimes inspirational. we haven't completely lost our sense of humanity and our ability to be selfless...yet

and that's what i'm holding on to.

we is kind.
we is smart.
we is important.

(and yes, that was a paraphrasing of a line from the help. h/t to j-girl in madrid)

if you know the movie, you know those words of support were spoken to a little child already being mentally beaten down by someone who was supposed to love her.  (no sense of nationalism, jingoism or any other -ism implied or intended, just my own reminder that i'm not letting anything beat me down!)

so, there it is.

by the way, i noticed that i used to post far more frequently than i have been of late. in fact, last year, i only posted 86 times! so far this year there have been 80. for the record, 2007, a year after i started blogging, was my high point with 302 posts!  who knew, right?

and what all y'all have been waiting for:

BBC and bacon

Moxie and BGM

holy moley! yesterday SOMETHING ELSE BIG happened, too!

you know what they say,

a day late and a dollar short!

yesterday was also a BIRTHDAY! our sweet angel baby #1, aka captain chaos turned 41!!! (yes, i was just a baby myself when i gave birth to him!) we did call him, just not at deepdarko'clock in the morning! but, even that was OK, because he woke up early expecting the call! and yes, we seriously laughed out loud when he told us that! so here's to our boy! raise a glass, raise a cuppa, hoist a bottle, but join us in wishing the captain good cheer!

the captain and his pig!

this weekend

a bridal shower.

a wedding rehearsal and a 60th birthday party luncheon.

and today, a wedding.

we are celebrating a goal reached by a friend - tonight, he's going to dance at his son's wedding and tomorrow he's going to be 60! our BFF, the guy all y'all have seen in so many of our party pictures, the guy the MITM calls brother, the guy who responded to all y'all's good thoughts, positive energy, and has been surrounded here in our little town with the same love and support has finished his chemo treatments with flying colors! the cancer isn't gone, but it hasn't grown, it isn't taking him away and it sure the hell isn't getting him down!

yesterday, had tears, happy and sad ones, but we all rejoiced knowing that things and the people we love were good and happy and we could all smile again!

remember to tell people that you love them now, don't ever wait or pass up the chance to say it. kiss the people you love!

and say thank you. be grateful. be kind.

and I Love You All!

and so it goes...

by now everyone knows that President Obama won a second term and the USA has not descended into civil war or rioting in the streets. yes, there has been a TON of grousing and a TON of gloating, but you know what?

big deal!

the real work is within each of us to decide which way we're going to go now. will we work with our neighbors to make our cities better, our educational systems better, our infrastructure better by holding those people we've elected to represent us DO THEIR JOB? are we, as a nation, going to realize that by demonizing one party, we shatter any hope we have of achieving prosperity for all of us? will we realize that when the least of us suffers, we all suffer? i could go on, but i won't because, i truly believe that we are a lot smarter than talking heads/pundits or citizens united or the koch brothers think we are. it's time to come together and just do it.

and now, back to the real reason to blog:

BABY PICTURES!!!

BGM asleep with her little lamb blanket.

BBC asleep on the big bed!

the day before the next four years

I am making a statement regarding my choice for Election 2012:

I am voting for President Barack Obama.

Consider this as you would a sign on a neighbor's lawn. You might not agree. You might be voting for the other guy. You might not be even voting (Sweet Mary Sunshine, but that is too unimaginable to even consider). BUT on Wednesday morning, no matter who wins, we'll all wake up and it will be business as usual. There will be no rioting in the streets or a military coup d'etat because, we're Americans and that's how we roll! Now, as you all know, I have tried to maintain civility, truthfulness and decorum in all my conversations both here and on facebook with regard to the candidates, however, this song came to mind while I was watching the news this morning and looking at the other guy...

left coast, right coast, but this ain't about politics

the coconut krewe shared a fun halloween trick or treating in Stretch's old neighborhood. it's an annual tradition in her family to gather for an evening pancake supper and then hit the neighborhood up for dessert! last year, only The Kid was around, but this year Baby Boy Chaos and Baby Girl Matrix wore costumes, too! so, of course that meant their parents had to dress up, too. the coconut krewe has always been pretty inventive when it comes to costumes. one year (ages ago, but to give you an idea of when, they all still lived at home!), they did a take off on agatha christie's and then there were none with friends. apart, they just looked like strange costumes, but standing together (which they did during the night) they told their individual stories of death until there were none! (damn, i wish we had some pictures of that night.)  i think that might have been the year i was a ghost straight out of a japanese woodblock print or kabuki theater. but, you get the point, we LOVE halloween.

The Addams Family aka Stretch, Captain Chaos, Baby Boy Chaos aka BBC and The Kid

Ghostbuster,  Slimer and Walter aka Mr. Matrix, Baby Girl Matrix aka BGM, and their "Big Lebowski" fan friend

the other Ghostbuster aka super nana

gomez and pubert

the goulish spanish cousin aka The Dancing Lady

The Fez Monkey (minus his cymbals) aka The Doc and Thing One and Thing Two

Ghostbusters and Slimer

and on the right coast, different scenes. surfer girl, our niece and cousin to the coconut krewe, lives up in astoria, works in and around nyc, and keeps a sort of surfer crash pad in rockaway. it took a few days, but she and her guy, Big Mike, made contact with their friends out there and had a chance to see the devastation. the images and the stories are intense, scary, but also speak to the resiliency of the human spirit. sadly though, in this age of instant communication and the anonymity of the net, the meanspirited voices are yapping away in comment sections everywhere. (another reason never, ever to read comments on facebook or the newspaper.) but, i'm not going down that tangent today. we'll just save that rant for later. or not. i think you know how i feel already.

bottomline, surfer girl is fine, her pals are fine and here in blogville, our pals up north are OK.

the pictures only hint at the destruction. surfer girl and her pals are out there today starting the clean-up where they can.

~~~~~~~~~~
stay safe.
stay strong.
remember to breathe
and always know,
i love all y'all!
