WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT!

here's the article i read on that other social media site about the commercial you just watched (you did, didn't you? no? go on, i'll wait)

sweet mary sunshine, what year is this?  we have different ethnic backgrounds, but unless some people are breeding with animals and producing offspring, we are one species, we are one race and that is human. i'm glad when commercials reflect the diversity that is america!  i am tired of the duplicity and ignorance that is masquerading as freedom of speech.  (read the article)

as an aside, i'm also tired of the ugly, hateful, grotesque language being used to describe the President and his family.  disagree with his policies, disagree with his party, absolutely your right. BUT, if you dislike the man ONLY because of his ethnic make-up be honest about that fact!  then you can talk about why you disagree with his policies. but that's not the focus of this post...i just had to say it! for the record, i disagree with some of the policies of this administration and i am disappointed that some promises made have not been kept, but sadly, that is the nature of politics today.

it's friday morning and i am tired already. i am seriously thinking about chucking that other social media site because that seems to be where all the venom is spewed/shared/posted by people i know and it hurts my heart.  i need to look at yesterday's video again.  *sigh*

OK, rant over (and it has been severely edited, sugarpies!)

~~~~~~~~
i saw this group on the cbs morning show! great way to end this post and also start the weekend!
a moment in time
today i visited hope's blog and spend the best 5 minutes ever.  (if you don't already know her, drop by and visit with her. you'll be glad you did.) the video she posted is below because i wanted to keep it on my blog as a reminder to myself about gratitude and also, to not give into despair or lose hope. none of us is guaranteed tomorrow, nor are we even sure of the rest of today, if you think about it, so why not remember to give thanks for each moment and not take anything for granted.
ever
old songs
the local alternative press had a story about music from wings and basically under appreciated it was.  call me unsophisticated, but i always liked the music! it was catchy pop and it was unabashedly so!  i still hum these tunes, but this was one of my favorites.
i'm having fun getting ready for the coconut krewe's summer stay, so i'm remiss about my 365, but hey, who's counting? (ok, besides our pal, UB?)
i'll probably put some more tunes up either today or maybe one aday along with some thoughtful words or not...
lover, come back to me - some jazz versions
 mr mago posted a version of this song and i promised i'd share some jazzier links!
56/365 i want to know where my food comes from!
anti monsanto demonstrations took place around the world today.
there was one in my little town. it seems that a local republican congressman might be the person responsible for the anonymous attachment of the secret monsanto protection act.  until i have verified proof that it was indeed him, i will not name him, although, many have named and shamed him today. i will do my own research.
you can't really tell the size of the crowd from these pictures, but given that it's Memorial Day weekend in savannah, it was nicely attended.
thursday and friday
the MITM and The Doc arrived in deepestdarkestafrica safe and sound yesterday evening.  i am still always anxious while he's sitting in an airport or flying until i know he's arrived at his destination.  i still tend to stay single focused internally whilst trying to go on doing what i'm supposed to do.
so, yesterday's post stayed in my mind and never made it to the blog. why didn't i just sit down and do it?  i'm not sure, but i did spend a good while composing it mentally and somehow it never made it to paper, metaphorically speaking.  by the time evening came around it was as if because i'd thought it, it was done.
and then i went to bed.
what was yesterday's post about? hell if i can remember now! i know, right? *sigh* Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is happening in my head these days? i need a routine again. this retirement gambit is messing with my head too much!
TODAY, i have a plan.
the office re-do is starting in earnest today.  may is almost over and june means vacation time and the coconut krewe will be here soon.  i have things to do! i should probably start with some breakfast first...
friday's baby picture is BGM standing up!
i'll look at the count and tomorrow's post will be numbered appropriately.
UPDATE!!
Ponita's comment reminded me that i haven't posted a recent photo of BBC! here he is on mother's day!
cap't chaos and his krewe will be here in june. super nana, mr matrix and BGM arrive in july!
some interesting comments
52/365
i am a very fortunate woman.  yesterday i had a brain cleanse and all y'all took a moment to figuratively hold my hand and say, it's gonna be OK.
for that i must thank you all.  you are all lovely, delightful, thoughtful and generous darlings and i love all y'all more than you know!
the MITM is starting to organize what he needs to take and working, of course.  multiple time zones make for long days and very interesting conversations. not to mention, the incredible nature of communications now and all of them happening on his MAC! my job this time is really damn simple or as super nana said, i do my job as wife very well!
yes, i know, i'm slipping and missing and i'm still going to call
...this one 51/365. because the guidelines say it's ok.
this weekend has been a blur of inactivity which 'round heah means a lot of thinking and or writing was going on. (also, a lot of really good cooking) i'd almost prefer physical work because there's a beginning, a middle and an end. when it's some thing being done or made in real time right in front of you, you see what's happening and have a reasonable expectation of saying the right thing or responding appropriately. when all the activity is going on inside someone's head, you haven't a clue. i mean, the MITM is still here physically, but mentally, he is so somewhere else. you'd think after all this time i'd be used to it, but nay nay, i am aware of what's going, i know the process, but, used to it? nope, i'm always surprised when it happens and it takes a minute before i remember that it's not about me, has nothing to do with me and there's nothing for me to do about it.  by now, all y'all must know that the MITM is a loving and generous husband, father and friend, so don't misunderstand any of this. i'm not complaining, just sort of emptying my head a bit today.
i know i'm talking about all of this because it's easier.
talking about the little problems/issues/concerns is always easier than trying to articulate the BIG THINGS that make you wonder why, sweet mary sunshine, is (you can fill in this blank yourself) happening?
keep on truckin, mama! isn't that what we used to say?  keep your eye on the prize!  that's the one that seems the most difficult at times and yet, the one that keeps me moving forward daily. i'm sure all y'all have sayings that give comfort and inspire that you've heard all your life.  there is a reason we remember  them, that our mamas and daddies and grandmas and grandpas said them as we were growing up.  what was it? what is it? right now, i don't remember and i'm hoping it's just a temporary brain freeze because i need the comfort of old words today.
*sigh*
on a much happier note, Big Shelly and Miss K are on the road again!  yep, our BFF's are motoring again and i wish we could have hit the road with them! check out sanibel, florida and raise a glass to those two wild and crazy guys!
counting down
the MITM leaves soon.
yep, deepestdarkestafrica is calling him there. on the upside (oh, yes, virginia, there is an upside) The Doc has signed on and will be there, too. the work schedule has been pretty hectic on the right coast and also on the left aka the west coast aka lalaland, but The Doc is performing well and life is considerably less chaotic around here.
short post today because the MITM is fixing veal scaloppini piccata and we're using the good china!
UPDATE and correction:
here's the recipe he used.
49/365
49/365
i remember being 49 and thinking how the hell did this happen? of course, having a birthday on new year's eve does tend to change the tone of your birthday party when the whole damn world is celebrating, right? but, i digress...
today i found that a blogger pal had dropped off that other social media site and i wondered what had happened. of course, it happens and surely no one need explain why or even inform others of their choice, but i'll still miss that pithy commentary and unique POV appearing on my newsfeed. it's drag when a voice is gone. i sent an email, so perhaps all connection isn't gone. (note to self: email a few other pals who've stopped blogging/social media updating). i've often thought about de-activating, but i haven't pulled that plug yet.
i'm not sure how all of this is connected, but today, i'm looking backward at everything that's brought me to today and wondering what tomorrow will bring.
this all sounds damn depressing, but the reality around here isn't.
not everything is the way we'd all like it to be, but that's life.
and remember, when you say i love you...mean it!
(oh yeah, i'm still ruminating on monday.)
WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT! i just realized that i missed wednesday again!!  h'mmmmm
anecdotally speaking and unrelated to today resumed
the high road is not always the only way...
i had posted this the other day, and then, on second thought, removed it. today, it seems more than appropriate, it is Whisky Tango Foxtrot necessary!
yeah, without going into the details of why, just let me say that i took not the high road, but the road of least resistance. it was painless, and i might add unlubricated with regard to alcoholic beverages. ok, just one, a very delicious cocktail...) but, anyway, it was an interesting night.
and that's all i'm going to say about that.
at some point in your life (ok, in MY life) you finally come to the realization that you don't have to carry any one elses misery just because....you (ok, ME) don't have to react and you certainly don't have to play their game.
(i slipped once, but only for a second.)
another year will go by or there will be one BBQ.
but, i'm done.
so this is related, but not related to my original train of thought. i suppose this is just a head clearing exercise and i will probably remove it.
no post today
mommy has a hangover migraine.
yeah, that's my story and i'm stickin' to it!
saturday morning
ever wake up and immediately wonder Whisky Tango Foxtrot am i doing up in the damndarkmorning?
that happened this morning. yep 04h30 saw me wake up with a start to find that the MITM wasn't in bed and was SNORING in the living room. yep, he was asleep on the living room sofa with the tv on. nothing was on the screen, of course, because he'd been watching a movie that was long over.
anyway, back to ME
it was strange dreams that had awakened me first, then being alone. the one i remember is that i was in a junk shop aka antique store aka thrift store looking at metal bistro chairs (i know, right? what is that supposed to represent?) with my BFF, Miss K and then, suddenly, i was alone and couldn't remember how i'd gotten there. now, lots of other things had happened in this dream before i woke up, but as i start to write them here, the image fades, but the people remain. they were all folks who've lived in my little town over the years that i knew, but other than Miss K, no one from the present.  i'm trying to figure out what set all of this in motion subconsciously, but given what i remember from psych 101, it could have been anything...
we'll see what happens tonight.
the rest of this day is a bit of work around the plantation, some work for the MITM (he's doing that, not me), helping Big Shelly and Miss K hang some art and then dinner there. *cheers*
what are your plans?
bits and pieces on friday or welcome to the world of drive by blogging
check out this blog about a soon to be released web series!
sweethearts of the galaxy
~~~~

i've been looking at latest/greatest/newest and yes, classic, fountain pens again. it can be an expensive hobby, but the looking is free. yesterday, i found this pen at kaufmann-mercantile online.

pretty cool, right?  it isn't the most expensive pen, but it also ain't the cheapest, so i'll just like it from afar for now. my pen of choice today is a Pilot Precise V5, extra fine with blue ink. (more info than you ever wanted, right?) it's not a fountain pen, but it's handy. the pen on my desk for signatures and check writing is a Lamy Safari with a broad nib, but there are also 4 other pens on my desk ready for use.

it's 08h30 and i'll be back later.

~~~~~~~~~~~
go read this!  thanks to lulu labonne via that other social media site, i think i just read one of the best descriptions of the in and out of depression ever posted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The Doc and i were talking about this latest new new thing going around america. if you don't already read this blog, go check out not one-off britishisms!

Thursday, May 9, 2013

how did i miss yesterday?

seriously!

i thought i had posted, but i guess it was only in my mind.

and just like anything and everything else in my mind...it's gone.

like the dodo and cash money.

d i s a p p e a r e d.

so today is 43/365 according to the guidelines.

~~~~~~~~~
i really can't get used to the fact that i am really, really, REALLY unemployed. i posted something to The Doc about work and he gently (as in, "hey, i thought you quit?") reminded me that i didn't have to impress the boss anymore.  i have to practice hearing "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah"  when the MITM is talking out loud about work.
*sigh*
anyway, all of this will be changing soon.  we're retiring the partners desk and the MITM is leaving soon to deepestdarkestafrica.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

did i mention that i'm re-doing the home office (that sounds so political, doesn't it?) with just a simple desk with a couple of drawers for current paperwork because a command center set-up is no longer needed. i'm OK with this, even though i did have my eyes on a very cool set-up. . . (no, i'm not going to post the link because then i'll really want it and i'll have to see it on the blog and all y'all will make comments about it and i'll want it even more...)

that just ain't in the cards.

but it was very nice.

i will take some pictures when it's all done. but it might take a while before it's all done.

*double sigh*

such a first world issue, i know.  this is all about me coming to grips with unemployment. it'll be over soon and i'll quit whining about it. i promise you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
remember to tell the people you care about that you love them. whatever you're doing right now, take a moment and pick up the phone, write a note, send an email/text/SMS, but let them know they are cherished, loved and that you're thinking of them.
it makes a difference.
i know.
The Doc
there will be more.
there might even be text at some point, so i'm not counting this as part of my 365 until there's something readable meaningful besides photos to share.
remember, we're talking guidelines, not rules about participation in the 365.
sunday, sunday
40/365
we woke up to wild, loud wind and rain this morning! outside of the phone ringing at 3inthedamndarkmorning, these are sounds you do not want awakening you! we have a well insulated attic and double pane windows AND interior wooden plantation shutters, so for the sound of wind, rain and lest i forget, thunder to be audible inside...that stuff was loud!  the trees outside the bedroom window somewhat obscure the sky, but the flashes of lightening are always just a bit scary.
the rain finally stopped around 11ish and to look outside now, you'd never know how insane the storm had been.  well, except for the fallen branches, all small thankfully, and  tons of leaves. i haven't ventured off the plantation so far, but the MITM and The Doc had to run some errands and they didn't notice any downed trees or flooding.
Big Shelly and Miss K are back from their whirlwind tour of quite a few states or 3,000 mile journey around the south and midwest.  as Miss K said, it was so much fun, she forgot to take pictures! they were living in the moment and having a blast.  they also found some fantastic antique shops during their travels, too, and i have a stunning copper planter filled with succulents to prove it! (they give really, really good gifts!) i'm glad they're home because we have some really good wine that needs drinking sharing.
random things on a saturday
39/365
 it's saturday, sweet peas!
our pals over at Ammonite Films posted the link below on that other social media site and i thought it was too cool not to share!
glow in the dark leaves
~~~~~~~

the insanity from yesterday was finally completed. i sent the final email off early this morning, all the fees have been paid and the guys in deepestdarkestafrica have their itineraries in hand and I.AM.REALLY.DONE.

i already have a new gig! who knew, right? i am in charge of the temporary company cafeteria! and once again, i'm working at home! i wonder what i'll get in lieu of pay this time.

~~~~~~~~~
captain chaos sent this and i think BBC is just too damn cute, so of course, i have to share it with all y'all!
and here's BGM
friday! (yet another UPDATE added) last one, it's done or so we thought
38/365
i'm sitting at the dining room table and the MITM and The Doc are working away in the breakfast room which translates to about 30', but i swear, they might as well be in deepestdarkestafrica.
i am free!
and i already miss it.
this too shall pass, i know it. it's just that it all happened so quickly.
last official duty: change airline tickets.
i'll be back.
12h35 UPDATE
4 hours later, three transfers to the person who could help me AND about 40minutes for each transfer, i still have not re-scheduled the flights.  the tickets are not for me, just to be clear.
i'm fixing lunch now.
i'll be back.
again.
16h25 UPDATE
sweet mary sunshine!!!
this ticket change is still NOT completed. whatever y'all do in the future, DO NOT USE EXPEDIA! this is the last thing i have to do, but i swear, this has to be the most frustrating day ever! i've learned a lot of things over the years in fields i never even thought about, had no idea about and honestly, never, ever thought i'd have to know about! as much as it hurt my brain to learn this stuff, it was never frustrating.
this is.
no one is taking responsibility  or taking ownership of the problem to make it whole/change the departure date and collecting the fees. damn call centers!
(rant on outsourcing redacted)
*sigh*
18h44 UPDATE
and so it goes, after all this time, it's finally done...
if only that were so. the tickets are purchased and emails of the itineraries were promised, but no show yet. and it gets better, one ticket had to be viewed on the airlines site, but guess what? right, the site said, talk to your agent.
WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT!?!
i'm done.
Thursday, May 2, 2013
37/365 and yes, i skipped yesterday, but it's OK
because
i'm going with the idea that the original rule (?), intent (?), of the 365 challenge were simply guidelines and that's all. i mean, really? who's keeping track besides me? (OK, maybe UB to make sure i'm really writing stuff and not filler to just have a post up.) so, by now, you might be asking yourself, "what the hell did you do yesterday, savannah, that kept you from posting?" well, sugarplums, mamma was B.U.S.Y. with the last bit of work she had to do as indentured slave servant to the MITM and his corporate krewe.
but,
i did get a new iPhone5 in lieu of pay for my services. (i know, right?) now, i just have to learn how to really use it. pretty funny stuff considering how loathe i was to even consider trading in my old razr phone and now i'm on my second smartphone! don't even get me started on how much better my texting skills have gotten. (even super nana is impressed!) and yes, all y'all were right about taking the leap.
so, now what?
i'm sitting here and they're gone. the MITM and The Doc have been working since 08h00 and all i had to do this morning was:
1. make coffee
2. make blueberry buttermilk pancakes
3. clean-up after breakfast
and
4. write one check.
and i'm still in my  jammies!
the added bonus today? my wakeup was at 06h00 and not 3aminthedamndarkmorning!
i think LX was right, i could get used to this lifestyle very easily.
