round 2

eros has begun round 2 of save infomaniac and leni!

check out his site for instructions on how to post a question asking why MJ and leni's old comments have not been restored on OUR blogs (not to mention their own) and why comments made by these two are STILL being routinely erased within 24 hours!

stop by leni's an read her letter to google about this and other issues.

a few bloggers have made the jump to wordpress out of frustration and anger over the actions of blogger and i've backed up my blog there as well. the issue may seem minor, but we all know that bad things happen when small injustices are allowed to flourish.

the madness of wild georgia shrimp

yesterday, the MITM got a call from our BFFs/neighbors/traveling companions/and drinking buddies to come over because 60 pounds of fresh, locally caught wild georgia white shrimp had just been delivered! the guys (miss k and i were not involved) met for an evening of snappin' heads and drinkin wine - the result of which will be 10 quarts of shrimp stock AND close to 30 pounds of (now frozen) shrimp! this weekend, the MITM will be making shrimp risotto. i'll take pictures.

postscript from the MITM

We have Islamic shamans, Rabbinical wizards, Christian spiritualists, and several voodoo mojos working to keep BP oil on away from here, doncha know, and off our shrimp!

additional information

remember when i told all y'all about the MITM bringing back some spices from dubai? well, sugarpies, he's going to make shrimp & saffron risotto this weekend. and for all y'all cooks/chefs/lovers of all things delicious, he'll be using iranian saffron!

for Boxer from the MITM

le colonel - a french dessert
lemon sorbet doused with a shot of grey goose! enjoy

it's friday, we need a break!

there's been so much sad news lately, i think we need a break. i need to smile again. i think it's time for a PARTY!

really?

a party?

yes, that's right. a celebration of all the good things happening in our lives. i know there are some good things, if we take a breath (that's one, just being able to breathe easily), stand back and reflect. finding the good helps us get through the bad. or if nothing else, certainly distracts us from the dark side of life.

let's start our party weekend by dropping by super nana's and wishing her a happy 4th blogoversary!

the rest is up to all y'all! i'm going to start party planning for sunday! (which of course, y'all know by now, means a mini-party this afternoon to plan the sunday party!) (and a pre-party get-together tomorrow night). we know how to plan good times around heah!

be well, take care and have a blast this weekend, sugarpies! xoxoxo

something important

Why water and sanitation? Access to these most basic necessities means:

  • People live longer, healthier, more dignified lives

  • Increases in school attendance and literacy

  • New opportunities for women and girls
How would your life be different if every morning you didn't know where your next glass of water was going to come from? More than 840 million people faced this question today.
What makes Water.org different?

  1. We don't just write checks. Rather, we implement holistic water and sanitation projects on the ground. Working through local partners, our projects are demand-driven and community-led. We also back our commitment to sustainability with rigorous monitoring and evaluation, and original research programs.

  2. Our 20 years of experience. We have transformed thousands of communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America. We got our start as WaterPartners in 1990 and have been growing ever since. In July of 2009, we merged with Matt Damon's water organization, H2O Africa, to form Water.org.

  3. An integrated approach. Sustainable water and sanitation projects are not simple or easy. In our experience, success is achieved by communities taking ownership in every aspect of a project. Using only locally available technologies and incorporating health and hygiene education are also crucial to a lasting project.

  4. WaterCredit. Charity alone will never reach the billions of people without safe water and a toilet. By making affordable credit and small loans available to those living in poverty, WaterCredit empowers people to immediately address their own water needs. As loans are repaid, they can be redeployed to additional people in need of safe water. After 10 years of loan cycles, five times as many people have water with WaterCredit than with a similar amount of grant funding.

  5. Continued innovation. We are driving the water sector for new solutions, new financing models, greater transparency, and real partnerships to create lasting change.

  6. It's about them. We are inspired by the people we're working with all over the globe. They are taking these projects into their own hands and making them happen.
Thank you for your support! We cannot do this important work without you. Here's to the day when everyone can take a safe drink of water.
- The Water.org Team.

i received this email today and thought, "enough about me. let's share something about what we can do for others." and here it is. do what you can by donating or just sharing the link and information. every bit helps and our community and our world is the better for it.

happy father's day

all y'all know i'm not very big on hallmark holidays, but i think someecards said it best about father's day:

If you're a father, have a father, know a father, want to be a father, were almost a father by accident once, or are part of a lesbian couple where one of you is more fatherly than the other, it's time to recognize paternal successes and failures in a loving, self-deprecating, or alarmingly inappropriate way!

Happy Father's Day to a wonderful husband who no matter what having kids has done to my body still seems to want to nail me

have a brilliant day!

kaz has ovarian cancer. drop by and leave her some love, my darlings. MJ is right, kaz has been a sweetheart, a witty commenter, the hippest of idlers and from the first time i read one of comments on my blog, one hell of a dame! she could use some community love and strength right now...leave a word, a hug, she'll see it and more importantly, she'll feel it!

just when you think it's safe to go back in the water...

i had posted a comment at leni's blog yesterday and dropped today to see her reply (because unlike me, she always answers) anyway, nothing was thereAnonymous. there were 4 of us who'd left comments and then another 4 or so that she'd answered.  i left her a comment letting her know what had happened. here's her reply:

My dear Savannah, Please don't think I've been rude or unpolite: Yesterday I answered your comment and GB's, and XL's and Max's and Mago's, but Blogger deleted them because I had commented with my username. I just noticed today. Thanks for telling me. I'm so sick and tired of this situation, and so fed up with Blogger that in a couple of days I'll move to Wordpress. I'll let you know about the details in a new post. Blogger is eating out all my comments, not just here but all over and I can only comment anonymously. The same thing is happening to MJ. So my dear, I apologise for this weird situation. In a few days I'll have a new home and everything will be fine again. ;-) xoxoxo

Dear blog friends and commenters, I can't stand this situation anymore. To delete 3 years of comments is outrageous and terribly unfair. I don't think it's fair to keep me commenting anonymously in my own blog, despite having submitted several questions to the blogger help site. I got no answer. So I'll be moving very soon to Wordpress and my blog will be X-rated, just in case. I'll keep you abreast of events. There will be a new post about it with all the information you need. XXXX to all of you. You're wonderful people.

a friend needs a hand...

Charlie aka Professor B. Worm could use a bit of our collective good will and positive thoughts right now. His friend Wandering Coyote has posted a message about our pal, Charlie, that all y'all need to read. Charlie is one of the really good guys who has taken the time to share not only his stories, but his good heart with me and so many others! I know that our collective positive energy/prayers/supplications can make a difference because we take care of our own here in Blogville!

So, go on over, drop by his blog and leave some good vibrations!

xoxoxoxo to Charlie and Martha from me, the MITM and the coconut krewe!

 TUESDAY UPDATE:
THE INFOMANIAC IS BACK

Saturday, June 12, 2010

something's happening here, what it is ain't exactly clear...

today on  mago's blog, i read the following:

The Infomaniac removed?!!

UPDATE

The Mistress writes:

"My blog was mysteriously removed overnight.
What's worse is that my Gmail account says "account temporarily disabled" so I can't get into My Gmail either to correspond with any of you.
I've tried using the "contact us" feature on a Google Accounts page but there was a server error so they haven't received my complaint."

"I've gone around to several blogs including yours to tell my blog friends about this.
[...]
I have a lot to do this weekend and won't be able to post comments on everyone's blogs but I'm hoping they'll see my comments on other blogs. "

*****
check out mago's site for the comments from all our other friends.

MJ, feel free to use the comment section here, i'm going to open it to anonymous comments until you're back online!

NEW UPDATE AT mago's!

*************

check out eros for how we can help free MJ!

sunday update:

princess and roses have also posted about the current situation (see blogroll).  i posted my question on blogger help asking why and received 2 replies:

"Kapitano has posted an answer to the question "A blog I read (http://theinfomaniac.blogspot.com) has been deleted without warning to the owner.":

Infomaniac was a comedy/community blog. There's no way it could be mistaken for spam, hate speech or any other TOS violation, except evidently by software that needs a lot more work.

Blogger's deletion of Infomaniac is cavalier, unreasonable, and doesn't exactly increase Blogger's popularity with its users. Infomaniac should be restored, and its owner deserves an apology."

yeah, for the support from kapitano

AND

"DarkUFO has posted an answer to the question "A blog I read (http://theinfomaniac.blogspot.com) has been deleted without warning to the owner.":

The owner will need to create a Topic here to resolve the issue."
ok, but that does seem a non answer answer to my original question.  it seems DarkUFO is official help so that's the best answer we're going to get!

*sigh*

anyone else getting answers?

*******
from the MITM

They came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionists.

Then they came for the blogger INFOMANIAC, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a blogger.

Then they came for me and by that time no one was left to speak up.

_____________

REINSTATE INFOMANIAC NOW!

(My apologies to Pastor Martin Niemoller for paraphrasing his famous statement.)

check out mago yet another blogger is being silenced! Free Leni!

UPDATE   leni is back.  mago has posted the explanation she was given. leni's blog is NOW going to be listed on my blogroll and i am going to VISIT and support her from now on!  i don't know what's going on or why, but i love our blogging community and i will stand with all y'all!

******* 13:49 est SUNDAY UPDATE*******
FROM MJ via mago:

MJ, 13 June, 2010 18:33:

"I can't thank you all enough for your kind words and support.

On top of everything else, my PC is dying and I have to spend time working on setting up a new one, etc. And XL will tell you what a technical wizard I am (not!). Thankfully, I have a friend who will help me.

There is way too much going on in my life at the moment (though lots of it is good!). I don't need this upset in my life though and neither does Leni or anyone else but that's life, eh?

You bitches have been great.

Maybe in the new year I'll make a blog with the name "Nice Knitting Blog" and Google won't bother me ever again."

so, my darlings, this ISN'T  settled.

our good friend is momentarily  silenced, but WILL be back eventually. MJ, i hope y'all know how much we all care for you and about you!

another meme, but with a twist

i've been tagged by the darling roses to do the latest meme in blogville. the twist is that after i answer her questions, i get to ask 10 NEW questions and tag another set of bloggers!

1. Do you believe in ghosts? absolutely! we once went to the voo doo museum in new orleans and the atmosphere was so oppressive and hostile, i had to leave. no one else felt any discomfort except me. these same feelings have occurred when i've visited sites associated with war or civil strife long buried. AND i have seen a ghost in a former home!

2. Are you content with your life? i accept my life as it is right now. there is no respite, but there is no rancor. if one accepts the definition of contentment as  satisfaction, then no, i am not content. but even in saying that, i am in the moment. i am in the world, but not of it.

3. Have you ever been close to point blank? if by point blank you mean close range, i.e. a step away from death, then no, i have not. very close to other disagreeable things, but never the possibility of imminent death.

4. Is philosophy necessary? it is as necessary as the air that we breathe. the word itself is derived from the the greek philosophia  love of wisdom.

5. Do you live with books? yes. they are my constant companions. they even have their own room!

6. Have you ever been on stage? besides high school plays? yes, for a brief moment in time, i was part of a theater group in los angeles. i had an intense love/hate relationship with the stage. now i just like watching others perform. i am glad i didn't try to pursue a career on the boards.

7. Do you regularly read a printed newspaper? only on sunday. it's a long held tradition. (the new york times and a pot of fresh coffee.)

8. Are you afraid of the future? no. fear limits a person and denies opportunities for success and failure!

9. Do you know yourself? i know enough to know that i'm always changing and hopefully, for the better.

10. Will you play on? ABSOLUTELY! i'm working on my 10 questions and will post those later today.

so, there it is. the hardest part of this will be finding 6 others who haven't already been tagged!! ok, and writing the questions...

*********

1. is there one book that you reread with some sort of regularity? (every 2 years, once a decade sort of thing) and if so, why?

2. do you still watch cartoons? and if so, which ones and why those in particular?

3. what's the one thing you can't imagine living without on a daily basis?

4. take out/take away or home cooking more than three times a week?

5. which is your most favorite room in your home?

6. are you currently following/regularly watching a tv series? which one and why?

7. have you seen the player?

8. other than your blog, do you keep a personal journal?

9. do you have a favorite movie quote that you routinely use?

10. will you tag 6 bloggers or will you leave this open ended and accept answers in comments?

i hope that

daniel hoffman-gill

scout

manuel

will decide to play along!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE MITM!

Happy birthday to one of the few people whose birthday I can remember without a Facebook reminder

Just wanted to be the first one to wish you a happy birthday so I can feel superior to your other well-wishers

it all started with bombshell bliss and her flash mob friday

for a a few minutes we can laugh, hum off tune, chair dance, but for a few minutes, maybe, just maybe we can all smile and just be in the moment!
