IT'S BIRTHDAY TIME!!!

no pictures, but i have been thinking...
ok, there might be a picture or 2 at the end...
but, seriously, WTF is going on around the world? ok, maybe i mean here, in my little town. elections for local office, as in the mayor and aldermen, will be held on november 3rd and it is getting uglier and uglier around here!
the call is for all incumbents OUT NOW and a new council elected. this is one of those times when a clean sweep is not only needed, but DEMANDED by a city tired, no, fed-up, with the lack of awareness and commitment to dealing with not only crime, but two of the reasons why crime prevails: poverty and lack of education. ours is not a unique situation, i know that. the story is the same world wide. there is also fear of the unknown, as in what are we going to do because everything we've ever known is falling apart. (i do live in the south, remember) and we can't forget the love affair we as a country have with guns! (damn the NRA and what it has become) this little town of 154,000 people (plus or minus a few thousand depending on the day/time of year) has had an average of one shooting per day. so far, there have been 32 homicides. my little town has made national news for shootings and/or deaths more times than i can remember! most recently, a college student who died while being held at the county jail. this is a small town and because he worked at a local retail (national) chain, many people knew him and knew that he had a medical condition that required medication that was DENIED him by officers. the case is currently being tried.
bottomline, local news, local politics, local LIFE has kept me busy. our pals up in canada, chris, reminded me about what's going on up THERE, as has used-to-blog-but-now-is-facebook-exclusive, donn coppens, and how much our pals to the north know so much more about OUR national politics than we do about theirs! i can't believe how provincial i've become, but it's true, i have to remember to think global and act local because this big blue marble is the only home we have!
even if water has been found on Mars
that's it, it's thursday night and (american) football is on and it's the falcons at the superdome and the SAINTS are going to kick their dirty boid butts! the falcons may be 5-0 and the SAINTS 1-4, but tonight the SAINTS will roll over them, pluck their feathers, roast them and WIN!
