i went to the urgent care doctor yesterday.
it's a viral infection, he said.
it'll pass, he said.
take some OTC meds, he said.
you'll be fine in a couple of days, he said.
BUT.TODAY.I.HAVE.LOST.MY.VOICE.
i'm calling my regular doctor tomorrow.
or maybe i'll just show up and write it down.
I.CAN'T.SPEAK.

there's a word or two for how i feel
the first that come to mind are
drag ass
(i do feel obligated to tell you that i feel much worse, but i wanted the language to be a bit more polite)
not sure if all y'all across the pond use the term, but around here, it means, as a verb, to move slowly and the noun, well, that would be me, i am moving slowly.
i had some sort of cold that hit me like a ton o'bricks this past tuesday night and then, slowly just knocked me out for hours at a time. today, i woke up feeling
so
much
better!
but that feeling quickly dissipated and
i
am
freezing!
i look like some directionally challenged eskimo who has wandered onto the plantation, opened the front door, and decided to hibernate on my leather sofa in front of the tv demanding to be given hot tea and toast. of course, that eskimo, being me, has had to drag ass herself to the kitchen and take care of her own needs.
(it does make one wonder why i never get this sick when someone else is here who could fetch and carry for me...)
but, as our lovely irish pals are wont to say,
jesus wept.
i keep trying to answer comments on past posts, but it ain't happening right now, sweetie darlings! (yes, i did watch a couple of old AB/FABS)
but in true southern tradition,
tomorrow is another day.
i shall return
eventually.

it was the 31st of december...
the day started at 10:30 in the morning with Miss K making Bloody Marys and the perfect compliment to that delicious drink, a toasted bagel with cream cheese, purple onion slice, lox, capers, a drizzle of olive oil and a couple of sprigs of fresh dill. THIS morning (yes, today, monday, january 5th) i remembered that we forgot the sliced beefeater tomato! but, that's only because the Bloody Marys had enough tomato to hide that fact...(that's my story and i'm sticking to it!)
and then, it was time for lunch. i have no idea what the real time was, but the mussels were in the fridge, the wine was on the counter, so it seemed like a good idea to fix them! if you don't already know this, mussels are soooooo easy to fix! the MITM usually fixes these and they were on the menu he had planned, so there you go! we had to follow through and prepare the birthday menu he'd planned. and no matter, we both like them! they were cooked with a fume blanc and we drank a viognier (benzinger vineyards) with the meal.

the original plan was to have a charcuterie with our drinks, but i think we decided that was too much after the wine and mussels and french bread. and we still had dinner to think about! i'm pretty certain we had something with those drinks, but i'm not sure. . ..
the stew! my party was on a wednesday and i made the stew on monday, so all we had to do was warm it. i should call this dish by its correct name (only because it sounds so lovely)...
Slow-Cooked Provençal Beef Stew
THE CAKE!
it was a mini chocolate on chocolate with chocolate ganache, decorated with white chocolate cake! we ate the cake and popped the crackers and laughed over the prizes. the wine on the table is Domaine de Bila Haut "Occultum Lapidem" and it was de-li-ci-ous!!
