no, not YOU. 

i'm talking about facebook.

i thought i would just leave facebook alone, but so many of my blogger pals are only posting there and i like keeping in touch, so that wasn't a viable alternative. and then the new "friends of friends" i've met, well, they aren't all bloggers, so again, not a choice.  but then, EUREKA! some one at facebook (is this where i say thank you, mr. zuckerberg?) wrote a line of code that made things easier...

i just found out that i can change "friends" to "acquaintances" and also, take their rants/stupidity/lies (i think y'all are getting my point) off the newsfeed! i know it's silly season here with the election only a week away, but sweet mary sunshine, why is it getting so ugly? i don't agree with all my friends politically, but when we don't agree, it's been a thoughtful, maybe heated, exchange, but always civil!  you know, as reasonable people are wont to do!  but then, there is this next level of people i know that have crossed a line that i don't know i can ignore or tolerate any longer. i mean, seriously, posting an effigy of a black man lynched and calling it "protected political speech" because it's supposed to be the President who just happens to be half black and saying "hey, nobody said anything when the liberals were stringing up President Bush" is beyond wrong on so many levels, i get upset all over again! (and for the record, i spoke equally as vehemently about those images, too.)  no matter who is elected on november 6th, he will be OUR President. at some point, we all have to put aside these divisive partisan politics and start working for each other and not against each other.

now, i know some might say, i'm over reacting and fine, you are welcome to your opinion, and i respect that and will defend your right to disagree with me, but know that on this, i stand firm.  i cannot and will not tolerate hate speech (as defined by law) or hateful speech towards myself or others.  we are civilized people who can disagree on topics, often passionately, but respectfully, without succumbing to personal attacks and vile speech.  

give me something to think about, challenge me, inform me, that's what an exchange of ideas on social media should and can do! and yes, please continue to share pictures of your cats, dogs, chickens, gorgeous dinners, desserts, scenic vistas and yes, adorable children and grandchildren on facebook, but  please know and remember where i stand. 

other than that,  we can always agree to disagree!

it seems like only a few years ago...

i was holding my new baby girl and thinking how lucky we were to have her arrive safely.

she was born on the night of the mandeville canyon fires, in a hospital we hadn't bothered to tour because, hey, she was our 4th and we knew the drill.

we didn't even know where exactly the hospital was...much less which door to use. oh yeah, it was a funny night. in fact, the day she was born is part of family legend. the MITM can tell that part of the story one day because he figures so hugely in it!

super nana was an easy birth, a very happy baby and cute, too! now she has her own baby girl. and the story goes on...

seems i'm having a bit of a dry spell here, sugarplums!

the words are here, but just stacking up inside my head with no way out right now. everyone is fine, don't worry. i only add that because things have been known to get just a little bit crazy (cue seal's voice as background music) around here. i hope to get through this drought soon, but until then, i'll keep reading all y'all and commenting when i can put more than two words together to form a cogent thought or at the very least, something that makes you smile!
