The morning the earth shook!
If you read about the earthquake here in So. California, please know that we're fine. As of now (12:35PM), no injuries or damage have been reported. It seems the quake was located off the coast near Malibu. Living here in SoCal does have its advantages, but things like earthquakes and fires are concerns. We've moved from seasonal hurricanes and thunderstorms back to earthquakes, droughts, torrential rains, and flooding, or fires that result in mudslides! Don't get me started on sinkholes, cave-ins, or any of the other things that happen when it rains HARD here!
Add to all of this, the traffic and insanity that happens on the roads every day that's even worse when it rains. The human congestion in the city is insane. The disparity in incomes is ever-present. The current local government set-up (mayor - 15 city council districts) isn't representative of the demographics of the city because the districts are too large (average 275,000+), not to mention the fact that corruption and racism within the council have been a very public issue recently.
But even with all of this and all the things I haven't mentioned...
I'm truly happy being back home in Lalaland!!

Almost the middle of January
It's Friday the 13th.
Nothing out of the ordinary around here.
Unless you look at the news and watch the insanity known as the 118th Congress.
Kevin McCarthy and his merry band of pinhead nincompoops? SweetMarySunshine! Three days in and what bills did they produce? Yeah, nothing for you and me that's for sure.
We're in for a bumpy ride, sweetpeas.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! the after party follow-up...such as it is
THE PLAN HAD BEEN...
to take photos of the Birthday Party spread and then the New Year's Eve celebrations and drinks. But, somehow we ate the food, lit the sparkler on the cheesecake, sang happy birthday, and then DEVOURED the cake and the cupcakes before anyone remembered to take a picture.
The MITM made French 75 cocktails, a few bottles of wine opened (and consumed), Veuve Clicquot champagne for the revelers, and a bottle of my favorite, Tattinger for ME! I had planned to do my Ab-Fab impersonation of Patsy drinking straight from the bottle, but super nana had gorgeous coupes for the champers, so that was the stylish choice.
So, here we are the first day of January 2023! Most of us (here) are still in pj's, drinking coffee and/or water and wondering who left their car here...
and how did they get home?*
*I'm kidding. The Doc drove here alone and The Dancing Lady came after her performance. He drank, she didn't, and was the designated driver back home. The Krewe are extremely responsible adults, so each couple had a DD. This is Los Angeles and a DUI is not what anyone wants.
