another day in the life

windows are being replaced here. yep, the three palladium windows are being removed and temporary single pane windows are being installed. they'll be fixed and re-installed on wednesday. six of the lower single hung windows are also being replaced immediately. it seems the seals had sprung leaks and the interiors were all foggy (pretty technical description, eh?). lordy, i am boring myself! on to more exciting stuff!

the MITM will be home tonight from his hunting trip with captain chaos in south dakota which from now on will be referred to ask that place. check out the cap'n posts about the trip! he did take some good photos.

no pheasant, so i'm making a hearty beef and vegetable spoup for tonight!

1028 update:

i was over at scarlet's and read about the gender analyzer type in your blog url and find out if your gender is apparent from your style. there's a 60% chance that what you're reading right now was written by a woman, but it's "quite gender neutral."

(yes, the men are still working on the windows here! i am bored to tears!)

1621 update:

the lower windows are done, the palladium windows are off to be redone. just a solid piece of glass instead of the correct mullions.

from mr.moose i give you:

sunday

dive reminded me about where i was a month ago regarding this move. yep, we hadn't closed on this house, i was packing up the old house, the MITM wasn't home yet (and was dealing with his own set of professional lunatics/situations over in deepest, darkest africa and going equally as insane) and a host of other minor/major roadblocks that kept appearing along the way, so compared to all of that, things in the here and now are FANTASTIC!

i have to keep reminding myself, we've made a decision to plant ourselves permanently in the garden of good and evil, instead of living like houseplants - transient, movable, disposable and without roots in the ground.

we really are HOME.

1007 update:
i've been awake since 6 am and now i'm feeling as if i should be doing more than reading the paper, drinking coffee and watching sunday morning on cbs.

*ack* i think i've forgotten how to just be.

enough!

i don't want to unpack another thing!

i don't want to flatten another empty box!

i don't want to put one more thing away!

i'm tired.
i'm achy.
i hurt in places i had forgotten about.

so, MITM if you're reading this, there will be work to do when you get home.

i'm done until then.

All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful

... must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression.
Thomas Jefferson

cap'n dyke has returned after a brief hiatus and requested that as many of her friends and followers post the following banner! go over read her blog and remember, once we deny the rights of any group because of our particular religious beliefs, we open the door to suppression of all rights for any reason.

So many visitors! I'm so glad to hear you are in and MITM is back, and you'll never have to haul recyclables again. Well done, now the fun begins.

i fear it may be the beginning of an endless stream of repairmen, sugar ! but, you're right, now the fun begins! xoxo

Good on ya, ya bastards! Is the addition for me and the mutt? You shouldn't have!

we figured it was the only way we'd be able to leave all y'all something to fight over after we're daid and gone! and no, the addition is for your grandmother! we have more than enough room for you and ghost! (and a fenced yard, too!!!)

Blogger tallulahbloom said...

Are you not just shattered? Although moving in is way more fun than moving out!

i'm getting there now, sugar! the MITM is off pheasant hunting with the #1 son, so i'm taking this unpacking show a tad biut slower! ;) xoxox

So long as the library is set up, you can lock yourself away and ignore everything else :)

well, it's almost done! and i am working on ignoring everything else anyway. xoxo

We Had squirrels in our attic a few years back........they are a real pest.especially in Spring when all the babies appear.
Whats the position in The States? I UK it's a problem as they are classed as a "Protected Species" & not regarded (officially ) as "vermin".So....you cant get companies out to get rid of them as you would, say, mice.

the company is really and truly called "critter control," sugar! here in georgia you can trap and release away from your residence. our man thinks that it might be rats!!! so he set killer traps. so far, it seems as if he was able to seal all the entries to the attic and nothing was trapped inside.

You are doing famously and I know you are sensible enough not to overdo it and give yourselves break periods every day. No sense in going to bed too exhausted to sleep.
All best wishes for a very happy home. What more do you need?

it's all coming together rather well, i must say, sugar! even with the MITM away, i've been able to keep plowing through the remaining boxes! he really was a darling to work so hard the few days he was home before the hunting trip! ;) xoxox

Library, architect, bar ... the rest ... umh ... will follow.
Squirrels are nice. If you can not lock them out you'll have to look for a Trapper's handbook. In the library or on the web. Maybe the architect can design some squirrel housing device. What does a squirrel need? Ask LGS.

i'd rather use the attic for storage and not vermin housing, sugar! ;) xoxox

done, done and done, sugar! the MITM took care of that detail already! xoxox

Squirrels = Stew pot fodder.

Think of the attic as a small farm unit. (-:

i'm not that southern, sugar! down here that call that brunswick stew! (welcome & thanks for stopping by!) xoxo

The fun really starts when you are shovelling squirrel-shit out of the attic.

i really am a slacker, aren't i, sugar? re: the shoveling, that's part of the contract with critter control, they vacuum up the droppings! xoxox

I dunno, I think the library would be my first choice, you can just grab a bottle of wine and a glass before you settle in with a good book. You don't really NEED the bar as badly as the library.

Just my humble opinion.Delete

it's all part of settling in, sugar! at this point, i need everything to kind of fall into place, even if it changes next month! i need ordered chaos... ;) xoxox

Blogger Scout said...

Boy, I don't envy the work ahead. Sorry. That's not very encouraging. We have squirrels sometimes, too, but can't get anybody to help get them out. We once had nearly 20 flying squirrels living in the attic.Delete

every day is better than the day before, sugar! the critter control guy is almost sure he's sealed all the little buggers out! xoxox

so there it is! y'all are too fantastic for words. i love reading your comments and your blogs, it's just taking me a tad bit longer to get around to all y'all. i think that by next week, my time will be more of mine and less wrapped up in the house which is rapidly becoming HOME!
