the day before the BEST DAY OF THE YEAR!!!!!

it's tuesday, the 30th day of december, the 364th day of the year...

and the day before my birthday.

party preparations, so far:

food has been ordered.

cakes have been purchased. (1 chocolate, 1 white) (don't ask, it's in deference to the anonymous old lady who lives here, aka the MITM's mother)

copious amounts of champagne are chilling and

camera batteries are charged.

from what i understand, fireworks displays, as usual, will begin after dark around the world in celebration of my birthday...and to bring in the new year.

if you're in the neighborhood, feel feel to drop by and be prepared to party!

today is MONDAY!

and you know what that means!

yes, darlings, wednesday is just a day away!

yes, it's true, i am excited, thrilled and yes, looking forward to starting a new year in the middle of my demographic category!

i love birthday parties, ask my kids, they'll tell you!

this year is a small gathering, but that's fine. i'm just happy to be alive. i'll probably post again later today...

we have karaoke on our tv!!!! who knew? the MITM is singing chain of fools aretha style...this is going to be a great party!.

a possible answer about religion...

Annie Savoy: I believe in the Church of Baseball. I've tried all the major religions, and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Siva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there are 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there are 108 stitches in a baseball. When I heard that, I gave Jesus a chance. But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. You see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring... which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball: you just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250... not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. You see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I've got a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickinson or Walt Whitman to him, and the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. 'Course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe, and pretty. 'Course, what I give them lasts a lifetime; what they give me lasts 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball - now who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for God's sake? It's a long season and you gotta trust. I've tried 'em all, I really have, and the only church that truly feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the Church of Baseball.

of course, football fans (american or european style) have their own church, too!

Let's fire off a few …

1. What was the yummiest dish your mother made when you were little?

arroz con pollo which is one of the most delicious dishes ever known to humanity! here's one recipe for those interested. the second was just about anything else she ever cooked! ;) xoxo

2. How did you and the MITM meet, and who did the chatting up?

everyone always asks this question because we've been married sooooooo long! we were...get ready for it...childhood sweethearts! yep, it's true - it can happen. we went to the same elementary school, lived only blocks apart, our families knew each other. he made the first move, but if he didn't he thinks he did. so we'll leave it at that!

3. What's the oddest utensil in your kitchen?

according to the MITM, silicone ties for bouquet garni....in pink!

4. Why Georgia?

why not georgia? ;) but seriously, we're used to living on the coast, so a move from the west to the southeast made all the sense in the world! i couldn't bear the idea of snow and cold, so the northeast was out, as were the mid-atlantic states. florida is way too floridian, so georgia it was! we had looked at other places, but living near the ocean was a must!

5. Do you ever go surfing with the Captain? And do you kick his ass at it?

surfing? oh hell nooooooo! i learned how to really swim when i was in my 40's (ask suppernana & mr. moose about that!). my feeling about surfing is sharks don't visit me, i won't visit them! as to kicking the cap'n's ass at anything - those days are long over! i can't even guilt trip him anymore!

I could sit here asking questions all day, Savannah, but I'll leave it here for now to give the others a chance. if you have more, ask away!

What - if anything - have you not done that you would like to do?

the biggest unmet challenge is to hike, if not all, a portion of the Appalachian Trail, 2175 miles from georgia and to the great state of maine! mr. moose has said he'd like to do a part of it, as have a few gal pals. i'd like to do something about this in 2009.

And just one more - if you were told you could only give one piece of advice to your child or grandchild what would it be?

trust in god, but tie your camel! in fact, i think my children have been given that bit of advice already. in all seriousness, from the very first time i heard that proverb, i've tried to apply it to my own life. do what you need to do to make things happen correctly, but know that, ultimately, you aren't always in control of outcomes.

only 1? then, today is the happiest day of my life! and tomorrow, no matter what, will be even better. i wake up knowing that my family is safe and doing fine, that i have no personal problems that can't be overcome and that all things considered, i am fortunate. and i am humbled and grateful for these blessings.

What is your favorite wine?

the one i'm drinking at the moment ;) i think my absolute favorite is a french wine the MITM & i discovered on our first trip to paris. it's from the languedoc region, domaine gardiés. aside from that sentimental favorite (it's also very, very good), i'm really partial to california wines from some of the smaller vineyards. i think i've named a few before: 5 rivers, reynolds family, cloudview. and then there are the south american wines...*sigh*...so, it's realy true, my favorite wine is, 9 times out of ten, the one i'm drinking at the moment!

How'd ya'll decide on Savannah? we had looked at austin, texas and sedona arizona but decided we couldn't live inland. we also looked at new orleans, but KNEW it wasn't the spot for us to live, just a grand place to visit. charleston, south carolina is another good place to visit, but way too uptight for a southern town! so, savannah, like a middle child was just perfect. so, here we are, on the forest river with a view to the marshlands, down the street from the freshest seafood this side of heaven...what's not to love?

i did and i loved the sweetness and humanity of it all over again. the greatest filmstar of all time? that's a tough one because to my mind each generation of actors builds on the talent and skill that has come before them. but then again, film stars aren't always the best actors. so, in answer to your question, i couldn't name just 1.

Where haven't you traveled that you'd most like to? i'd really love to see more of the usa (suddenly, i heard dinah shore's voice in my head singing...see the usa in your chevrolet) and the rest of the american continent. then, the rest of the middle east that i missed...the world is large and i've seen such a small portion of it.
