How the hell is it already Thursday?
Here's the deal, as you already know the MITM and I are currently on the other side of the hills out here in Lalaland. BGM has a summer schedule that we are closely adhering to because super nana used to be a teacher and prefers that BGM spends some time learning and not just watching tv! This is fine with me, but at my age teaching or rather providing guidance on 2nd-grade math skills is beyond my ability. I mean, listen, sweetpeas, all the terminology is different! We aren't borrowing or carrying anymore. We are re-grouping and other terms I've already forgotten! BGM senses I don't know WTF I'm doing, so she prefers that the MITM help her. I'm good with that! I get the fun part of story writing, spelling, word recognition, you know all the stuff I know. *Jesus wept*
We're also doing a countdown to BGM's birthday! Yep, she's going to be 8! I'll remind you. This year having a party is out, so friends and family are going to do a drive-by birthday celebration which seems to have taken the place of kids parties thanks to the pandemic. Presents are arriving in the mail, but won't be delivered to the birthday girl until that day. It's pretty hard not to over-indulge a bit because things are so off-center for children these days! So, that's what's happening here. We were hoping that her cousin, BBC could be here, but at this point who knows if we'll be back under mandatory stay-at-home orders by August. All I am absolutely sure of is that the cake will be delicious and is exactly what she wanted!

Damn, I am rambling now. I think I have "shelter-in-place" brain and once I start writing or talking to people on the phone, I can't stop. It's the whole "OMG, it's someone other than the people I live with" thing. Or as Mr Matrix says the old pensioner talking to anyone who'll listen thing. I really would like to just run my own errands or just take a drive, but that ain't happening. I'll stop complaining now.
Take it easy, sweetpeas, seems we have a long way to slide before this is over.
So, wear your mask, wash your hands frequently, and for the love of all that's good, practice physical distancing when you're outside!
It's sort of great to fill our time with things this long right? And what do you mean they aren't "carrying over" anymore? Do they even learn cursive anymore? I feel old now.
ReplyDeleteAnd just the other day, after all these months, a good friend finally told me that the jock strap I was wearing as a mask is not safe. Now someone tells me lambchop. That would explain the looks I was getting.
You are an absolute joy! I am laughing at the thought of you wearing a jockstrap on your face! thank you, darlin!
DeleteBy the by, they still do learn cursive! xoxo
Oh I can so relate to not knowing WTF I'm doing with helping G-kids with School Work and they do know it. This last one I'm raising has an IEP and will be in her Freshman Year of HS, she has severe Learning Disabilities and I don't think, during a time of Pandemic, that the At Risk Children and their Families will even be a remote consideration for being adequately accommodated... since the Online Thing isn't working for her yet it's unsafe to do the In The Classroom Thing either with the condition of our State being beyond out of Control and dismal! I'm glad the Birthday Plans are being modified in a meaningful way, it's so hard on Kiddos to have their entire World re-arranged and so unsuccessfully changing by the Minute as the Plague rages and nobody really has any consistency or idea what should be done to stay Safest... beyond the obvious Basics which too many are still rebelling against. *Le Sigh* I'm now officially the Old Pensioner talking to anyone who will listen... mostly Online... and going LONG... smiles.
ReplyDeleteI still 'borrow' and 'carry'! Or I use a calculator. No, I doubt I would be any good at home schooling!
ReplyDeleteStay as safe as you can - this ain't over for any of us.
Sx
It's nice that BGM has a choice in teachers. I do sense that she and others have learned many important life lessons by your good examples. I worry about the kids that fail to learn the importance of good hygiene and why wearing a mask protects the community.
ReplyDeleteI sympathise with the school work. I tried helping my eldest niece with some of her reading and spelling, and had to give up - not because I can't spell, but because of the phonetic and bizarro way her school teaches it: words are allowed to be spelled wrong?!?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the drive-by birthday sounds like a great idea - I'm sure it'll be fun!
Drive by Birthday sounds like great fun ! As for teaching... I think it is a huge mess. I was so happy when my kids were out of the California school system. What was once a great school system is, for me a shambles. I am a "older than dirt" old lady but my basic education served me well so I could go on to bigger and more interesting studies. You can't build on shifting sands.
ReplyDeleteSo good to read the news from La La Land ! Happy to hear you are all well !
Be well and Stay safe !
cheers, parsnip
'We aren't borrowing or carrying anymore. We are re-grouping and other terms I've already -'
ReplyDeleteI can't bear it! Haven't we suffered enough?
Lovely you can see your family. Enjoy and stay safe.xoxox
This is why I'm glad my daughter and grandkids live so far away...all I have to do is be entertaining over the phone. Mommy has to home-school them. Again. AND IT SERVES HER RIGHT. Meanwhile, here at Rancho FirstNations, Pet Teenager has turned 18 and I got to mix her her very first 'real' cocktail! It's amazing what kids don't know today. Pet Teenager has the entirety of the Innernest at her fingertips - but didn't know that LOTR was a series of books. What the actual. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteMaths ? Apage, Satanas !
ReplyDeleteTeach them to think, to write, history and philosophy. The rest will follow.
